ELA (English, Language Arts and Reading)
The HPISD English Language Arts and Reading curriculum is based on the state standards or Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS, adopted in 2017, were implemented in August 2019 (grades K-8), and August 2020 (grades 9-12).
The 7 major strands of the K-12 TEKS are:
- Foundational Language Skills
- Comprehension
- Response Skills
- Multiple Genres
- Author's Purpose and Craft
- Composition
- Inquiry & Research
