Moody Innovation Institute
The Moody Innovation Institute (MII) was established by HPISD in 2016 to enhance innovative STEAM education at all grade levels within the district while also creating the Moody Advanced Professional Studies (MAPS) program for the high school. The efforts of MII have been funded in large part through the generous $5.8 million grant gifted by the Moody Foundation to the Highland Park Education Foundation in August 2016.
One of the major focuses of MII is on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education in HPISD. To achieve our goals of helping to improve performance and interest in STEAM subjects, we have hired two stellar STEAM coaches while creating an advanced teacher professional development program. Our coaches work closely with teachers and administrators to develop innovative cross-disciplinary STEAM assignments.
Through this grant, the Moody Advanced Professional Studies Center (MAPS), an award-winning 10,000 square foot modern facility within the High School, has been created for professions-based instruction of juniors and seniors. MAPS students work with business and community partners on current topics ranging from engineering and design, business and entrepreneurship, and brain science and health. These integrated curricula are enhanced by community partners and experts sharing current state-of-the-art content and methods with our students.
