HPHS Debate Team Earns Second Straight State Championship

Highland Park High School students Camden Coale and Layton Braziel have once again proven their excellence on the state stage, earning the UIL 5A Cross-Examination (CX) Debate State Championship for the second consecutive year.

The duo’s back-to-back titles highlight not only their exceptional skill and preparation, but also their ability to perform at the highest level of academic competition. Competing against the top teams in Texas, Camden and Layton demonstrated sharp critical thinking, strong collaboration, and a deep understanding of complex issues throughout the tournament.

Their repeat championship is a testament to their dedication and the strength of Highland Park’s debate program. Achievements like this reflect the countless hours of research, practice, and commitment required to reach—and remain at—the top.

HPISD is proud of Camden and Layton for this outstanding accomplishment and for continuing to represent the district with excellence.
