Convocation sets the stage for a strong start to the new school year

The surprise closing performance from the Highland Park Middle School Pop Choir with an HP rendition of the High School Musical’s “We’re All In This Together” was a crowd favorite. Led by Katie McDaniel, the Pop Choir was joined by all seven HPISD school mascots for a high-energy performance that left staff excited and ready for the new year.

Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg and HPISD trustees officially kicked off the day with a staff breakfast followed by a pep rally complete with the Highlander Band, the Highland Belles and HPHS Cheerleaders. Schools, along with their PTA/PTO and Dads Club presidents, then participated in a friendly medley relay competition for the Convocation Cup trophy, which was taken home by UP Elementary.
Staff then gathered in the auditorium where HPHS Student Council President Jackson Heis helped welcome staff back and HPHS band member Gage Sword provided the traditional bagpipe welcome.

The district’s eight Teachers of the Year were honored at Convocation. Each receives a monetary award through the generosity of the HP Education Foundation and La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas. Beginning next week, HPISD E-News will feature a video tribute of one teacher per week.
