HPISD celebrates the Class of 2022

Family and friends will watch the 533 graduating seniors walk across the stage, signifying the successful completion of high school and their readiness to begin their post-secondary journey.
 
The class includes two U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates, 14 National Merit Finalists, 28 National Merit Commended Students, 14 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars, two National African American Recognition Program Scholars and one National Indigenous Recognition Program Scholar.
 
 
Class of 2022 Valedictorian Daniel Carrillo

Ranked number one in a class of more than 500 students is Daniel Carrillo, HPHS Valedictorian for the Class of 2022.Carrillo is planning to study Classics at Yale University in the fall, with a possible double major in Economics. “I’ve always been more interested in the humanities and social sciences than anything else,” he said. “I can’t wait to be able to explore Yale’s well-renowned departments in these fields.”Carillo was born in Monterrey, Mexico and spent several years in Memphis, Tennessee, before moving to Dallas in the second grade. Despite living only a little more than half his life in Dallas, during the past 10 years he has come to view the Park Cities as his hometown. “I know that when I look back on my childhood in my future, some of the most prominent memories will be of me walking to Armstrong every school morning, of heading to Snider Plaza after middle school exams, and of all the time spent with the group of friends I’ve known for more than ten years now." Two students named Class of 2022 Salutatorians, Justin Li and Clare Wu

Justin Li will attend Harvard University in the fall and study Electrical Engineering. He was born in Kansas and started attending Highland Park schools in fifth grade. He has served as the captain of both the HPHS UIL Math and Science teams for the last two years, individually winning a total of five state championships as well as leading the team to six championships in the categories of Number Sense, Mathematics, and Science. Clare Wu will attend the University of Texas at Austin to study Business and Finance as part of the Canfield Business Honors program with an interdisciplinary focus in environmental studies. Wu began her journey as a Scot in the sixth grade after living in a neighboring North Texas community. She is a National Merit Commended Student and earned recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction. She strongly believes in advocating for the environment and working to find solutions to make the world a safer, more sustainable place. Read Wu's full senior bio here.

Katherine Anne Massey and George Wright were presented with the 2022 Highland Park High School Blanket Award during Honors Day May 26. They have served more than 1,100 hours of community service and were collectively involved in 20 or more extracurricular activities during their high school careers.

The annual HPHS Honors Day assembly May 26 recognized various accomplishments, awards and scholarships earned by the Class of 2022 including the Hall of Fame recipients, HP Servant Leadership honorees, honor graduates, Magna Cum Laude graduates, Summa Cum Laude graduates, Valedictorian, Salutatorians and Blanket Award winners.

Graduation to be streamed live
 
The graduation ceremony begins at 7 p.m. For those who attend, parking will be available in the Binkley Parking Center (Lot C) and Moody Parking Center (Lot B). ADA parking is available in both parking centers. Click here for the parking map.
