National essay contest names 9 HP students award winners

Students from Highland Park Middle School and McCulloch Intermediate entered essays to the annual Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Youth Essay Contest. This year’s topic was "What happens when a community no longer respects private property?" Students from across the nation participate in the essay contest and nine entries from HPISD were awarded with a George Washington Medal.
 
The George Washington Medal award winners from HPISD are:

  • Jordan Laurie, 8th grade
  • Matthew Martinelli, 8th grade
  • Rebecca Stanwood, 8th grade
  • Allie Vandermosten, 8th grade
  • Pasha Zahedi, 8th grade
  • Brooke Myers, 8th grade
  • Sophie Ghobriel, 9th grade
Winners will receive their medal at a Nov. 8 awards dinner hosted by the Dallas Area Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation. Teachers whose students received awards are Asiya Roland, Katrina Hallman and Julie Grigsby.
