Scottie Joe's serves its first cup of Joe

Highland Park High School teachers were treated to a cup of hot chocolate on Oct. 31 courtesy of Scottie Joe's, a student-run coffee bar on campus. It is set to fully open later this semester, and in preparation for the grand opening, Scottie Joe's will only be open to staff on a limited basis for the next few weeks.

Scottie Joe's is a unique partnership between HPISD and The Credit Union of Texas. The HPHS MAPS program is responsible for running the entrepreneurial aspects of the coffee bar including the start-up business plan, marketing efforts, menu selections and inventory. The daily operations of making and serving Scottie Joe's beverages will be managed by HPHS 18+ students. It's a collaborative, engaging endeavor that offers students the opportunity to fulfill the district's motto, "Enter to Learn. Go Forth to Serve."

Earlier this month Park Cities People Deputy Editor Rachel Snyder visited Scottie Joe's and sat down with the students and educators working on this collaborative partnership. Click here to read the People's story about Scottie Joe's on page 44 in its November issue.
