Highlander Band finishes 5th at UIL State Marching competition

Congratulations to the award-winning Highlander Band for an exceptional marching season. The band earned fifth place for the performance of its show “Sugar Rush” at the UIL State Marching Band Championship Contest Nov. 1-2 in San Antonio. View full results of the contest here.
 
The band’s journey to state includes earning the title of Grand Champion at the McKinney Marching Invitational where it competed alongside 17 local band programs. At that contest, HP earned first place overall in the preliminary competition and first place overall in finals before being named the contest’s Grand Champion. The accolades didn’t end there. The Highlander Band also swept all caption awards for prelims and finals, recognized for Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, Best Music and Best Visual.
 
The Highlander Band also placed second in the Mansfield Preview of Champions before heading to the 5A Regional UIL competition Oct. 18, where the band earned the highest possible scores of First Division ratings from a panel of three judges. The band then advanced to Area winning first place at the 5A Area C Marching Finals and landing a spot among the top three Area C bands to advance to the state UIL marching contest.
