35 Highland Park High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, three students have been named National Hispanic Scholars. The students and their parents will be honored at a special breakfast Thursday, Nov. 7 in the HPHS Cafeteria.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation were recognized for their exceptional academic achievement. Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2018 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
"This year's National Merit Commended students and National Hispanic Scholars are an amazingly talented and diverse group of students, who deserve a great deal of credit for setting the academic standard and contributing to Highland Park High School being such a positive place to learn each day," HPHS Principal Walter Kelly said.

In addition, the College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program identified students who scored in the top 2.5 percent of high school juniors nationwide after taking the PSAT/NMSQT and designating themselves as Hispanic/Latino.
