HPISD English Language Arts curriculum review process

HPISD's English Language Arts (ELA) subcommittee has narrowed the field of potential ELA resources in grades K-8 to eight Science of Reading-based programs. The subcommittee is working under the guidance of the district's two literacy consultants, Robyn Hartzell and Dr. Thea Woodruff, to select new anchor resources prior to the new school year.

Potential phonics core resources for grades K-3 and core instructional resources for grades K-5 and 6-8 are listed below. Parents may use the links to gain information about each of the products and provide feedback. Although many of the vendors highlight technology tools that accompany the materials, the primary resources for HPISD students will be hands-on, printed materials.

HPISD values community input as part of every adoption and encourages feedback. Vendors have sent printed materials to the district for parents and community members to review. Materials will be available for review from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, June 13 through Thursday, June 16 in the William P. Clements Jr. Leadership Center, 6900 Douglas.

To provide feedback, parents and community members may view the links to the vendor websites to learn more about the products and/or visit the Clements Leadership Center to preview the hard copy samples, then complete the online feedback rubric.

Thank you for taking time to review the materials and provide feedback. Additional inquiries can be sent to Amy Wood at [email protected].

The deadline for online feedback is June 19, 2022, at 6 p.m. so information can be compiled and a timely decision made to share with our staff and community.
