Update summarizes English Language Arts progress

The goal is for the new materials to be in place by the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.

The two consultants are:

  • Robyn Hartzell, who has decades of experience as a teacher, instructional coach, intervention specialist, trainer, consultant, and program coordinator at the campus and regional levels
  • Dr. Thea Woodruff, professor at the University of Texas, Meadows Center researcher, and the principal author of the Texas Reading Academies

The plan is for HPISD English Language Arts teachers in grades K-8 to receive targeted professional development on the selected materials prior to the beginning of the next school year. As announced last month, a subcommittee of the HPISD Board of Trustees recommended phasing out the Heinemann Units of Study, which have been in place since 2019.
