HPISD's Golden Penny Election (Proposition A) is today. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at various locations throughout Dallas County.

Highland Park ISD Proposition A gives voters the opportunity to increase HPISD teacher and staff compensation by authorizing the use of 4 "golden pennies" that will not be subject to the state’s Recapture formula. In addition, eight State of Texas constitutional amendments are on the ballot.

What are the Election Day poll locations and times?

HPISD voters can vote between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at any Dallas County location including five sites located within Highland Park ISD:
  • HPISD Administration Building, 7015 Westchester Dr.
  • Armstrong Elementary, 3600 Cornell Ave.
  • Bradfield Elementary, 4300 Southern Ave.
  • University Park Elementary, 3505 Amherst Ave.
  • Highland Park Middle School, 3555 Granada Dr.

What is HPISD Proposition A?

Proposition A (the Golden Penny election) gives voters two options to consider to set this year's tax rate:
  • A vote For Proposition A would decrease the tax rate by 2.1 cents per $100 of assessed property value by setting a tax rate of $1.131 and generate about $3.6 million to be used solely to increase teacher and staff compensation.
  • A vote Against Proposition A would decrease the tax rate by 6.1 cents per $100 of assessed property value and set the tax rate at $1.091. Last year's tax rate was $1.1519.
Regardless of the election outcome, the tax rate will drop to a 5-year low.
