Trustees recognize students for state and national accomplishments

Recognized groups included HPHS wrestling, boys gymnastics, UIL academic teams and the AcDec team.
 
 
AcDec team honored for top performance at nationals

Trustees congratulated the Highland Park High School Academic Decathlon team for the team's second-place finish in Division I and first-place overall finish in the Super Quiz at the United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) 2021 National Competition. Overall, the HPHS AcDec team placed second in the nation. Recognized students included Ryan Carmack, Daniel Carrillo, Kai Tsuei, Matthew Winters, Karina Zaydler, Pike Dzurny, Mackenna Bierschenk, Jasper Chen and Jak Jiang. Wrestler recognized as a state medalist
 
HPHS Wrestler honored
Highland Park High School senior Henry Hoy and wrestling coaches Tim Marzuola and Tyler Williamson were recognized by the school board for Hoy’s third-place finish at the UIL 5A Wrestling State Championship meet.

Scots gymnasts celebrated for an outstanding season

The Board honored coach Mark Sherman and the Scots gymnastics team for finishing sixth at the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association State Championship Meet, the team's best state finish since 1995. Recognized students include Tyler Abbara, William Benz, Tristan Brown, John Demers, Andrew Else, Jake Ford, Vincenzo Guandolo, Adam Harper, Lance Lorio, Alexander Miller, John Sartain, Tommy Simpson, James Sowden, Clay Staunton and Jose Suarez Torres. HPHS UIL academic team congratulated for winning state titles
 
UIL Academic Team
Trustees commended the Highland Park High School academic teams on an extraordinary year. The teams took first place in three events and second place in one event at the UIL 5A Academic State Meet and team members earned a total of seven individual honors. Coaches Rena Bowen, Temple Truax, Anne Balden, Andy Speir and Wenzen Chuang were in attendance to congratulate team members. Recognized students include Geoffrey Son, Matthew Mattei, Michael Pagano, Eleanor Steger, Elizabeth Ahn, Justin Li, Parth Nandekar, Michelle Xing, Joyce Jiang and Luke Ting. Read the full story here.
