HPHS updates regarding gas leak

11 a.m. Nov. 8 UPDATE
HPHS will follow a normal schedule Monday, Nov. 9

We appreciate your patience and cooperation this weekend.

Tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 9) Highland Park High School will open to students at 7:30 a.m. to allow time for them to retrieve belongings that were left in classrooms Friday. The campus will follow a normal schedule with in-person and remote learning. Classes will begin at 8:10 a.m.

As shared last night, the parking garage is open. Students and staff may retrieve their vehicles anytime today through the east entrance located on Glenwick near Seay Tennis Center. The Westchester entrance and exit are closed and will remain closed until Atmos Energy completes repairs.
 
Staff and students will access the HPHS parking garage through the Glenwick entrance and exit until further notice.
 
 
 
10:30 p.m. Nov. 7
UPDATE REGARDING GAS LEAK - HPHS parking garage open

Thank you for your patience. HPISD has received notification that the HPHS parking garage is now reopened. Access is limited to the Glenwick entrance and exit.

Individuals may enter and exit the HPHS parking garage through the east entrance located on Glenwick near Seay Tennis Center to retrieve vehicles. The Westchester entrance and exit are closed and will remain closed through the weekend.

Minor work continues to repair the damage. For safety reasons, the HPHS building will not be accessible until Monday morning when classes resume. The building will open at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9.

 

12 p.m. Nov. 7
UPDATE REGARDING GAS LEAK – Fire extinguished, area remains closed

Fire crews and Atmos Energy personnel have extinguished the fire that erupted this morning while repairing the break in the gas line. The HPHS parking garage and building remain closed as crews continue to work on the line. Please avoid the area. HPISD will continue to monitor the situation to keep staff, students and parents informed about access to the parking garage to retrieve vehicles.

HPISD would like to thank First Responders for their work this morning.

 
 
10 a.m. Nov. 7
UPDATE REGARDING GAS LEAK - Parking garage CLOSED

This morning shortly after 9 a.m. an accident occurred while repairing the gas line break. Atmos Energy and emergency personnel are on the scene. Please avoid the area. The HPHS parking garage is closed and is not accessible. HPISD will continue to monitor the situation to keep you informed and to provide updates.

 

 
10 p.m. Nov. 6
UPDATE REGARDING GAS LEAK - Parking garage now open
 
The HPHS parking garage is now open. Individuals may enter and exit the HPHS parking garage through the east entrance located on Glenwick near Seay Tennis Center to retrieve vehicles. The Westchester entrance and exit are closed and will remain closed through the weekend.

5 p.m. Nov. 6
UPDATE REGARDING GAS LEAK - Parking garage remains closed

Atmos Energy is still working to repair the gas line. The HPHS building and parking garage remain closed until the leak can be repaired and the area is safe to enter. HPISD will communicate updates over the weekend to notify staff and parents when building and garage access are available to retrieve vehicles.
 
 
 
4:45 p.m. Nov. 6
UPDATE REGARDING VOLLEYBALL GAMES
 
Due to a gas leak at the high school, the high school volleyball games are being moved to the middle school.  The game times are still the same - Varsity 5:00 p.m., JV 6:15 p.m., and 9th - 7:30 p.m.
 
 
 
3:15 p.m. Nov. 6
UPDATE FROM HPHS REGARDING SCHOOL EVACUATION
 
All students and staff have been evacuated to Scotland Yard and remain safe while Atmos Energy works to repair a gas line break. Emergency personnel are on the scene. 
 
The estimated repair time will make it impossible for students and staff to return to the HPHS building. Entry to the high school parking garage will also be restricted until further notice. 
 
Parents must pick up their students from the new Multiuse Building on Douglas. Students who drove and parked in the parking garage WILL NOT be able to access their vehicle for the time being. Scots who walk to campus are being released through Douglas.

HPHS Evacuated, 2:15 p.m. Nov. 6
 
Students and staff at HPHS are being evacuated because of a gas line rupture near Westchester. All are safe. HPISD will provide an update as soon as possible.
