Census 2020 data can impact programs for education

Responses can be submitted by phone or by mail. The information collected in the count not only provides a snapshot of the nation, but it also reveals critical results that show where communities need new schools, clinics and roads, as well as more services for families. Results also show how federal funding can be allocated to programs including mental health services, education, highway construction and more.

A timeline of key dates is provided below:

March 12-20: Details on how to respond to the 2020 Census will be distributed to households by mail.

March 30-April 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness.

April 1: Census Day is observed nationwide. By this date, every home should have received an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Responses can be submitted by phone or by mail.

May-July: Census takers will begin visiting homes that have not responded to the 2020 Census to ensure everyone is counted. If someone visits your home, make sure they have a valid ID badge with a photograph and U.S. Department of Commerce watermark with an expiration date.
