The incorporation of STEAM has added to my teaching because it forces me as a teacher to go deeper into the material. Broadway and more deeply on the topics that were working on there really excited to come in and to participate until you see them interacting with each other and challenging each other's thinking it really helps and Speedway real-life work as well as pools in an interest level for all the different students saying I've been really helped us to broaden the kid perspective and allows it to you. Didn't Center design to help them create something on their own that's not easy but they're working on it they're getting there and it's pretty fun I'm planning my lesson the first thing that I do is look at the teks the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and then I spend some time and I do research I speak with my peers I speak with some of the other steam pilot teachers and we brainstorm and then I look at elements that that learning standard is requiring and then what I do is I match it up with other content areas title because it helps you realize all the different specs to Alaskan that maybe you don't think I would because you just teach one area another way is to just be really self aware of everything that's going on in the environment so that we can connect what we're doing in the classroom to something is happening in the real world I think steam just heightens their curiosity they are just excited and they're curious and they question and we have done a couple activities in here will do the students will go home and build sayings or Bill listener classroom and build it so just Natural Curiosity is there but to Willie Foster that and get kids excited about learning is really what the steam program is about one of my favorite feedbacks was a look from student I saw the aha moment happening for him cuz he was building and then all the sudden his eyes got really big and when guys guys and so you see those moments and you treasure those really I really happy that our teacher is a steam teacher so she could let us through Steam project I can tell that not a lot of classes do this and I feel like in school you just learn the things search for learn like math Reading Writing but in theme you kind of are more creative and try to build more thing for later in life what makes a traditional lesson Tran Mormon is seen is the preparation and looking for the different aspects of the different disciplines that could be applied multiple disciplines into their work and they are taking ownership of that work and developing the project on their own they believe it's meaningful because they've developed the project I think steam prepares students for the rest of their educational Journey because it really equips them with problem-solving tools but beyond that it also allows them to see that complex problems take complex Solutions and so you can't respond flies in one area you really need to be a jack-of-all-trades an approach complex problems from various directions to Paris you for that because again it's multidisciplinary Siri you're looking at all aspects you're looking at solving problems that could lead into future design worth that you might have in any career path that you take. I think it's a when engaging way to teach it really depends not only the students understanding and engagement but also the teachers and I think that's been such a highlight for me is really seeing the students make those connections and come to find out loud and say oh my goodness where you know this is similar to what we're doing in our class staying really does enhance their child's learning it's not taking away from not something away from reading or right it's integrating it all together I think what's so exciting and wonderful about teaching at Highland Park is that we have so many opportunities to learn so many different ways to teach our students and steam has brought a whole new perspective and outlook on the lesson plan but it's just an addition to the great things that were already doing here Park
