Destination Imagination

WHAT IS DESTINATION IMAGINATION?

Destination Imagination is an educational nonprofit that prepares children for a future that is rapidly evolving. DI does this through a project-based learning experience that applies the creative process across seven different Challenge types – Technical, Scientific, Engineering, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Service Learning and Early Learning – allowing pre-K through university level students to acquire and practice the skills needed to thrive in school, future careers, and beyond.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE EXPERIENCE?

Our Challenge Experience program is a team-based, creative project competition. Teams of students from pre-K through university learn to use the creative process to solve one of our seven annual Challenges.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

A DI team is a group of students of between 2 and 7 members that work together to develop a solution to one of our Team Challenges. The Team Manager is an adult (often a parent or teacher) helps keep the team on track, but does not assist or interfere with the team’s solution.

WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?

Teams form and begin meeting between August and January. They typically spend 2-6 months developing their Team Challenge solutions and practicing Instant Challenges. Most local tournaments take place between February and April. For teams that qualify for Global Finals, their season may extend into May of each year.

HOW DO I JOIN A TEAM?

Find a group of students in your grade level who you are interested in working with. Each team is made up of 2-7 students.

Once your team is formed, you can register your team on the Destination Imagination Website. You will need a Team Manager before signing up, and they will need to complete a background check. All teams must email their information to Bridget Myers once registered. 

TEAM MANAGERS

The main goal of the Team Manager is to keep the team on track. They do not help the students come up with solutions, rather they teach the creative process. Team managers must have a background check completed on the DI website.
