Language Other Than English

HPISD's Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program develops confident communicators and culturally competent global citizens through a rigorous, proficiency-based curriculum aligned TEKS and the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards. Beginning with early language exposure in elementary school and progressing through advanced language and literature courses, students build increasingly sophisticated skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while deepening their understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives.

Through immersive language experiences, storytelling, authentic communication, cultural exploration, and real-world application, students develop the confidence to communicate across languages and cultures. Our goal is for every student to graduate with the linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and global perspective needed to thrive in college, careers, and an increasingly interconnected world.
