Who We Are

Enter to Learn. Go Forth to Serve.

Why HPISD? A Proud Tradition of Excellence

The Highland Park Independent School District first opened its doors in October 1914 with a four-room building on Cornell Avenue. Since then, it has grown to become one of the premier school districts in the country and is now comprised of eight campuses: five elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and one high school. The district has an enrollment near 6,300 students and employs more than 800 people, including more than 440 teachers, with 67% of teachers holding a Master’s degree. We work to instill in all of our graduates our school district's motto: Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve.

Located immediately north of downtown Dallas in the 6.21-square-mile suburban area of Highland Park, University Park and a small part of North Dallas, Highland Park ISD serves over 33,000 residents who are predominantly college-educated professionals and business leaders in the Dallas community. There is a proud tradition of excellence in academic, fine arts, athletics and community service.

Our Mission

The Highland Park Independent School District, grounded in an unyielding commitment to tradition, excellence, community, and integrity, provides an unrivaled and well-rounded education in academics, athletics, arts, and service, equipping all students to be citizen leaders and lifelong learners.

Our Vision

Highland Park ISD will be the preeminent public school district in Texas and the heart and soul of the Park Cities. HP Scots will be honorable in conduct, devoted to scholarship, and charitable to all.

We Believe

At HPISD, students are at the center of every decision we make. We believe sustained excellence is achieved through continuous improvement, strong partnerships with families and the community, and transparent communication with all stakeholders.

We believe an excellent education develops the whole child through a balanced emphasis on academics, arts, athletics, and service. It builds foundational knowledge, sparks curiosity, encourages critical thinking, and helps students grow through challenge, responsibility, integrity, individual effort, and collaboration.

We believe passionate, highly skilled faculty and staff are essential to student success and must be supported through competitive compensation, professional development, and meaningful evaluation.

We believe district resources should be used efficiently and responsibly to support current needs while ensuring long-term sustainability.
