Major Medical Insurance

What coverage is provided by the district?

Highland Park ISD is currently in its 15th year of maintaining a self-funded health plan. The employees' continued wise use of their plan, along with charges discounted by Aetna's Choice POS II network, should allow the district the ability to maintain its current coverage with minimal increases in premiums.

Effective January 1, 2008 employees have two options for major medical insurance.

Traditional Major Medical Plan

The traditional plan is a major medical coverage allowing for 80% payment after the annual deductible is satisfied when using the networks contracted physicians and facilities, and 60% insurance payment from physicians not contracted with the Choice POS II network. The health plan is a PPO (Preferred Provider Option) plan with an annual deductible of $500.

Currently, Highland Park ISD pays 100% of the full-time employee premium. Monthly rates are available for adding dependents to coverage.

HRA Major Medical Plan

The HRA plan provides the same coverage as the traditional plan with the addition of an HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) which is funded each January 1st that pays at 100% prior to the members having to make payments towards their deductible.  Unused money in the HRA will roll-over into subsequent plan years  allowing members to control their medical care costs and to take an active roll in their treatment.

Currently, Highland Park ISD pays 100% of the full-time employee premium.  Monthly rates are available for adding dependents to coverage.

Prescription Drugs

An integral part of the district's medical plan is the prescription drug program. HPISD is committed to providing this service to its employees at a reasonable but economical cost.
