GENERAL INFORMATION
Elections for positions on the Highland Park ISD Board of Trustees are held on the first Saturday of May each year. Trustees are elected at large and serve for three-year terms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for Trustee positions must:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Be 18 years or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
- Have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court;
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
- Be a registered voter in the district;
- Be a resident of the district for six months before the filing deadline; and
- Be a resident of the state of Texas for 12 months before the filing deadline.
Trustees must retain these qualifications while in office.
EXPIRATION OF TERMS
The following places expire as indicated:
- Place 1 and 2 expire on the same year.
- Place 3, 4 and 5 expire on the same year.
- Place 6 and 7 expire on the same year.
BOND ELECTIONS
The Board of Trustees has the authority to call a bond election on certain general election days within the year.
