BACKGROUND
Dr. Cathy Bryce earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Midwestern State University in 1975. Two years later she earned her Master of Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and went on to earn her Mid-Management Certification in 1985, and her doctorate in 1991, both from the University of North Texas.
Dr. Bryce, a native of Altus, Oklahoma, started her career in 1975, as a choir director and English teacher in Arapaho, Oklahoma and later in the Birdville ISD. In 1987, she moved into school administration, serving as Vice-Principal and Principal in the Lewisville ISD, Director and later Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Carroll ISD, and Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent in the Duncanville ISD. She served as Superintendent of Schools for Weatherford ISD from 1997 until she became Superintendent of Schools for Highland Park ISD in July of 2001.
Dr. Bryce has a strong track record as being an advocate for children and has overseen dramatic improvements in student achievement. She has demonstrated the ability to integrate the interests of the community into a comprehensive education program; garnered solid backing for a historically large bond issue; delivered excellence through a curriculum and instruction program that focuses on success for every student; and implemented methods to satisfy citizens' demands for school accountability.
Dr. Bryce has served on numerous professional advisory and development committees. She served as the president of the Texas ASCD for 1999-2000, and represented Texas as the 2000 Superintendent of the Year for AASA. Dr. Bryce currently serves on the Legislative Committee for the Texas Association of School Administrators, on the Executive Committee for the Texas Schools Coalition, and as chair of the Texas LEAD Center.
Community involvement also ranks high on Dr. Bryce's agenda. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Dallas YWCA, on the Advisory Council of the Elisa Project, and on the Advisory Board of the Dallas Museum of Natural Science. She is a coalition member of the Alliance on Underage Drinking, a board member of Highland Park Arts, and a member of the Park Cities Rotary Club.
