Exams for acceleration are available for students seeking to advance to the next grade or course level without having received prior instruction.
Students going into kindergarten are given a series of reading, mathematics and writing tasks to assess first grade readiness. Students in grades 1-5 must score at least 80% in the four core areas: reading, math, science, and social studies. Students in grades 6-12 may take single subject exams and must score at least 80% to accelerate through the course.
Due to recent legislation, exams for acceleration are not available for courses for which a STAAR End of Course exam is required (English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and US History).
