All accomplishments are for the 2007-08 school year, unless otherwise noted. 

  • Highland Park High School has won the 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School Award. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was established by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 under the NCLB Act. Prior to the new program, all seven of the HPISD’s campuses have earned Blue Ribbon recognition. University Park Elementary School received the 2006 award, and three HPISD schools, Bradfield, Hyer and Highland Park Middle School received the 2005 award.
  • The Highland Park Independent School District and all seven of its campuses are rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency, the highest possible rating.
  • Approximately 97% of each year’s graduates enroll in colleges and universities.
  • All seven schools in the Highland Park Independent School District have earned the 2007 Texas Business & Education Coalition Honor Roll rating. TBEC recognizes schools across the state for sustained academic excellence. The TBEC Honor Roll recognizes schools’ meeting comprehensive performance standards over a three-year period. Campuses must have excellent performance in each grade, in each subject, and rate in the top quartile of their demographic peer group.
  • The Highland Park Independent School District is the one of only two districts in the state to earn all 12 2007 Gold Performance Acknowledgment awards from the Texas Education Agency. All seven of the HPISD campuses also received multiple Gold Performance Acknowledgments. The Texas Legislature created the Gold Performance Acknowledgment (GPA) in 2001 to publicly recognize districts and campuses for high performance in areas that are in addition to those used to determine state accountability ratings.
  • Highland Park High School was named among the Top High Schools in the country in 2007 by Newsweek  magazine. The publication listed HPHS in the 14th spot.
  • Highland Park High School earned the 33rd spot on U.S. News and World Report's  Gold Medal list of top 100 high schools. It was ranked ninth among the nation’s comprehensive 9-12 high schools.
  • In 2006-2007, Highland Park High School students average composite SAT score was 1743, 575 on verbal, 598 on math, and 570 on writing.
  • Highland Park High School students posted an average composite score of 25.2 on the ACT. The state average score is 20.3.
  • HPHS senior Andrew Mueller scored at “perfect 36” on the ACT.
  • In results for 2007, 1,041 students took 2,794 AP tests, with 60% scoring a 3, 4 or 5. 75% of the juniors and 76% of the seniors at HPHS take AP classes.
  • Highland Park High School was named the winner of the 2006-07 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement for the State of Texas. One high school per state is selected by the Siemens Foundation in recognition of its commitment to students and leadership in AP participation and performance.
  • 18 Highland Park High School students were named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. In addition, 29 students were named Commended Students. Four students were recognized in the College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program.
  • The Highland Park High School chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 208 new juniors and seniors as members.
  • Four Highland Park High School band students and three choir students were named All-State and performed at the Texas Music Educators’ Association convention.
  • HPHS's student newspaper, The Bagpipe, won a Silver Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.  Several staff members received individual Gold Circle Awards.
  • In 2006-07, the Highland Park High School science team won the 4A state title at the Texas Math and Science Coaches’ Association meet for the fourth consecutive year and the UIL 4A State Competition.
  • In 2006-07, the Highland Park Middle School mathematics team won the 4A state title at the Texas Math and Science Coaches’ Association.
  • In 2006-07, HPHS video technology students won the National Scholastic Press Associations’ Pacemaker Award, called “the pinnacle of scholastic journalism.”
  • In 2006-07, a team from McCulloch Intermediate School won the Lockheed Martin Space Day Design competition and was honored in Washington, D.C.
  • Highland Park High School won the UIL 4A Lone Star Cup, recognizing outstanding academic and athletic performances. It is the eighth time in ten years HPHS has received the award. Highland Park High School also was named the Dallas Morning News’ All-Sports award winner for the 19th time in 23 years.
  • In 2008, the HPHS Girls Swim and Dive team won its eighth consecutive UIL 4A State title.
  • HPHS sophomore Sara Sutherland won the gold medal at the UIL 4A Girls Cross Country State Meet.  Sara and teammate Jenna Read were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association 2007 All-State Cross Country Team.
  • The HPHS tennis team finished second at the UIL 4A state tournament, ending the Scot winning streak at 114 straight matches.
  • The 2007 Mad for Plaid campaign raised a record $3.37 million for the benefit of HPISD.
  • The HPISD Communications Department received 8 awards at the Texas School Public Relations Association conference, including the Best of Category Award in Photography.
