The Highland Park Independent School District and all seven of its campuses are rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency, the highest possible rating.
All seven schools in the Highland Park Independent School District have earned the 2011 Texas Business & Education Coalition Honor Roll rating. TBEC recognizes schools across the state for sustained academic excellence. The TBEC Honor Roll recognizes schools’ meeting comprehensive performance standards over a three-year period. All seven Highland Park Independent School District campuses were named 2011 National Center for Educational Achievement higher performing schools.
The Highland Park Independent School District received acknowledgments in every category of the Texas Education Agency’s Gold Performance Accountability indicators. All seven of the HPISD campuses also received multiple Gold Performance Acknowledgments. The Texas Legislature created the Gold Performance Acknowledgment (GPA) in 2001 to publicly recognize districts and campuses for high performance in areas that are in addition to those used to determine state accountability ratings.
In 2011, 1,056 students took 2,711 AP tests, with 69% scoring a 3, 4 or 5.
Highland Park High School students posted an average composite score of 26.8 on the ACT. The state average score is 20.8.
Highland Park High School students posted a composite score of 1786 (622 in math, 593 in critical reading and 571 in writing) on the 2011 Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
In 2011, 16 Highland Park High School students were named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. In addition, 30 students were named National Merit Commended Students.
Highland Park High School was named among the Top High Schools in the country in 2011 by Newsweek magazine. The publication listed HPHS in the 31st spot.
Approximately 97% of each year’s graduates enroll in colleges and universities.
In 2011, the Highland Park High School science team won the UIL 4A State Competition for the sixth consecutive year.
In 2010-11, Four Highland Park High School band students, four choir students and two orchestra students were named All-State and performed at the Texas Music Educators’ Association convention.
In 2011, The HPHS tennis team won the UIL 4A State Tournament for the eighth time in nine years, for 13 state titles overall. Click here to read more.
In 2010, the doubles team of Sarah Cannon and Alin Piranian won the UIL 4A Girls Doubles State Tennis Championship Tournament
Highland Park High School was named The Dallas Morning News’ 2011 4A All-Sports award winner for the 23rd time in 27 years.
In 2011, HPISD students and staff received 14 awards at the Texas School Public Relations Association conference, including two Best of Category Awards.
In 2011, HPISD received two awards for “Excellence in Writing” from the National School Public Relations Association.
Highland Park High School won the 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School Award. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was established by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 under the NCLB Act. Prior to the new program, all seven of the HPISD’s campuses have earned Blue Ribbon recognition. University Park Elementary School received the 2006 award, and three HPISD schools, Bradfield, Hyer and Highland Park Middle School received the 2005 award.
